Café Bonsai is a well-established café in the small fishing village of Taganga a couple of steps away from the beach that has brought, since 2010, a taste of Europe to the region. It is famous amongst national and international tourists for its European style breads, diverse breakfast menu, best coffee for miles around (in fact “the best cup of coffee in the whole of south-America” is a statement often made), original sandwiches, healthy and rich salads and a welcoming atmosphere, combining great local products with European recipes prepared with pride and love: a place unique to the region.
Amongst all the great options of restaurants in Taganga, it has managed to become the second highest rated place to eat in Taganga on tripadvisor (as of 27-02-2017). The menu is extensive and has plenty to offer for a wide range of tastes and preferences, from meat lovers to vegans. It is a place where many travellers return on a daily basis during their stay in Taganga. The combination of air-conditioning inside and the speedy wifi makes it a popular place for people to escape the Tagangan heat and work on their computer. Outside the terrace has a view to the beach where you can watch the fishermen departing and returning with a fresh catch. Inside there are currently five tables / 16 seats. Outside there are currently four tables / 10 seats and space for one or two more tables.

Proper organisation, smooth business processes and a fully legal business model have always been our priority. This means that taking over Café Bonsai, by either local or foreigner (also with regards to the work visa), is obstacle free. The café has a very good brand name and a market access. The secret Bonsai recipes are all documented and easy to understand; supplier contacts with the best products for the best price are established and secure: all is set up for smooth transition.
From our experience, a new owner would be presented with various opportunities: at the moment, Café Bonsai is open mon – sat, from 8 am until 3 pm. Longer opening hours (restarting the very popular bbq, for example) is a very feasible option, as well as delivery and daily/weekly specials. The newly opened vegan market shows positive potential for further expansion.
In short, a well organised and highly popular place who’s current working methods and standards can be easily continued by a new owner, but at the same time offering plenty of room to expand and develop further into existing or new areas.
